Imagine the Possibilities 2009

If you are looking to join in the gift of giving this holiday season and are looking for an extraordinary New Year’s Eve Celebration, than look no further. Want to Dance?, LLC has donated two Tango du Masque tickets to the Somebody Cares Imagine the Possibilities 2009 silent auction taking place on December 5th, 2009.

Somebody Cares provides needed services to at-risk youth and the needy in our inner city neighborhood.  We serve close to 5,000 meals annually to the homeless and provide sack lunches to the hungry each week.  We also maintain a “food bank” to help single mothers, struggling families, and seniors.

Through the years, our youth program has nurtured a special and productive relationship at Denver East High School.  We provide lunch and guidance to over 150 students every Wednesday, as well as a meal for the football team on Thursday nights during the season, and outreach to the parents and families of these teenagers.

Thanks to the popularity of reality TV and a long line-up of reality dance shows, there is a mounting resurgence of interest in social and performance dancing. Dance studios are popping up like mushrooms after rain, offering classes ranging from ballroom classics to hip-hop, salsa, merengue, zumba and more. One of these increasingly popular dances is Argentine Tango, which is perhaps one of the most challenging, and at the same time the most rewarding dances around. Developed mainly in Argentina with influences from various cultures, Argentine Tango is often confused with ballroom tango, which is the European adaptation of Argentine Tango. Argentine Tango has been developing over the last century, and at some points of its rich history was almost eradicated by the oppressing Argentine government. In recent years interest in tango has enjoyed an explosive growth and many venues are now available in nearly every major city in the world for learning and dancing social tango.

The diversity and breadth of Tango amplifies its complexity, but also brings out its inherent beauty and intricacy. Learning the basics of tango are simple: mastering it however, oftentimes takes many years of diligent practice. Many avid students of tango find themselves going through profound changes while exploring the many different aspects of it. The more they dance, the more they find that tango teaches them about focus, balance, trust, listening and sensitivity. Many find that studying and dancing tango lets them achieve new breakthroughs and use what they learned in tango in other areas of their life.

“When you study tango, you learn a great deal about yourself and about life”, says Paul Jazwierski, co-producer of Tango du Masque. “Tango teaches you about communicating with others. It teaches you about partnership and working together. It teaches you about paying attention to others and respecting them. It teaches you how to get in touch with your feelings. And also, it is just plain fun”.  Tango at its best allows people to explore their beliefs, feelings and emotions. It is a breath of fresh air in the world of six-foot fences and anonymous subdivisions.

This year you have a chance to experience tango live, at a New Year’s Eve Celebration called “Tango du Masque”.  It is an evening of entertainment based on the fabulous culture of Argentina’s Buenos Aires and the art and music of Tango. The event includes a gourmet meal and one of a kind performing arts Tango Show with live music and nationally renowned performers. The evening’s schedule also includes a midnight toast and a host of other entertainment, including an exhibition social tango dance (milonga). It is a formal event (dress code required) with a Venetian masquerade theme.
